Our TZTS HS Dakota Iapi students had the opportunity to participate in a spring equinox ceremony and seed exchange as well as help set up and serve for the SWO TED spring feed to the people at the tribal rotunda. The morning was osni but it was a beautiful ceremony with encouraging words from Unkanna Clifford Canku to our wikoskapi (young teen ladies) na koskapi (young teen men) whom were in attendance. Tunwin Melaine Stoneman explained the importance of the spirit food, the importance of our connection to the lands and our Dakota way of life. They were given tobacco to pray for our makoce. It was beautiful Spring Equinox ceremony at Clifford Canku residence. Wopida tanka to the SWO Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program and Melaine Stoneman.

Part 2: Last week Wednesday March 13th some of our Tiospa Zina Tribal School HS Dakota Literature class and MS immersion students traveled to Lake Andes to attend the 19th annual Waterlily storytelling conference. Our students had such a beautiful and culturally rich experience. The first day of the gathering the students took in information and learned about our Tatanka oyate relatives and were able to partake in ceremony for our Pte San win bundle carrier Arvol Looking Horse. That afternoon they went to the river to take in the water and its beauty along with the landscape of the Ihanktowan makoce. The TZ chaperones and teachers were so proud of the students and how they conducted themselves. The HS girls helped prepare and serve food to the elders. Thursday March 14th was the language day. They were able to listen in to some introductions as well as say their own introductions in the Dakota language. The trip was beautiful.
